Angelica Ortiz
A native of Cali, Colombia, and from humble beginnings, Angelica has always been passionate about teaching, coaching, and mentoring. As a child, she played “School Teacher” with her dolls. When she was in high school, she tutored kids in elementary. As a young adult, she taught basic English at the institute she attended for English classes and tutored computer algorithm to her college classmates.
From a young age, Angelica also learned what hard work and dedication was. Her family owned a lunch-only restaurant that catered to factory workers near her domicile and she helped clear tables and wash dishes. Here entrepreneur spirit and drive also awoke early. She sold candy, chips, and bicycle shorts through middle and high school; she was even paid to work on other people’s school projects. She enjoyed socializing and learning from everyone she encountered.
Angelica moved to the United States when she was just short of 20 years of age. She started cleaning houses in New York. Her family encourage her to look into the military. She was not able to get in because she did not speak English. Instead, she found the love of her life, a US Air Force Airman, and lived that “military life” through her husband, while living in Fayetteville, NC. She graduated Summa Cum Laude with a degree in Spanish from Fayetteville State University at age 28.
After graduation, Angelica attempted to commission in the Air Force, but was not given a waiver for her tattooed permanent makeup. Not knowing what to do, she started to volunteer at Catholic Charities and ignited her passion for helping others. Soon after, she found out about the Department of Social Services and was hired as a Medicaid Case Worker. She thought she had it made, that this was her dream job, but three and a half years later she was unfulfilled and left. She did not feel she was really helping people overcome their well-being situations.
Feeling frustrated, she dwelled into fitness, motivational videos, and nutritional articles and was soon helping other people with workouts and healthy eating habits. Once again she thought she had found her niche. But soon thereafter, her husband received orders to move. Angelica felt into a depression because she did not know how to cope with leaving her friends of 11 years. She was in that depressed state for over 2 months, and immediately got back into fitness after her husband said she needed to see a doctor and get some meds.
When she turned 34, she figure she would give the Air Force another chance. Angelica went to Basic Training 5 months prior to turning 35 and missing that window for good. She enlisted as a Security Forces member in the Reserves and served her 6-year commitment, completing it in 2019. In 2014, however, she was introduced to Multi-Level Marketing and discovered a world of personal development and mindset shifts she had never seen before.
Since the end of 2014, Angelica has read numerous self-help and business books, completed over 15 business, wealth, and personal development seminars, and has watch/listened to hundreds of hours of YouTube educational videos and podcasts in this arena. Her hard work, dedication, and commitment to personal growth has allowed her to free herself from fear of heights, which culminated with a Skydive jump in Dubai, thus inspiring and motivating over a dozen people do the same.
Angelica has also gained confidence in decision making and has overcome the fear of failure, which has allowed her to own a few houses and run them as AirBnBs. She dove into cryptocurrency and the stock market, and has run a couple of home-based businesses (professional network marketer); one in the travel industry and the latest in the nutrition and supplements industry.
Her latest endeavor is growing her coaching service in personal development and conscious nutrition (primarily the ketogenic diet – keto), digging well into people’s root cause for poor mindset and poor eating habits. She believes in the power of “Telling Your Story” and community because people can learn from those they can relate to. Angelica Empowers’ motto is “You have to tell your story because you don’t know who you can impact, whose life you are going to change.”
